Primus Returns to Riverside With 'A Tribute To Kings'
Primus, the band that refuses to fall into a category, returns to Riverside with a tribute performance of Rush's 1977 album A Farewell To Kings in its entirety, following a set of their own music.
The Black Angels from Austin, Texas open the show.

On The Outside, You Can Hear The Music Play
Outdoor music gets a boost this week when Romano's Canyon Crest starts live acoustic music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tonight the Summer Just Got Cooler Concert Series at the Canyon Crest Towne Centre features Whitewater Station playing acoustic pop in the courtyard. They have chairs set up but if you have your own you might want to bring them just in case. This is a popular series!
Riverside institution Backstreet Restaurant is trying out some evening hours with live music. [pause for applause] Friday night they welcome Riverside singer/songwriter Jonny Miller playing his own songs and folk rock/americana covers.
Friday night is also the kickoff of the summer acoustic shows at Romano's Canyon Crest with reggae rocker Gabo Fayuca from Phoenix. Saturday night they have Jonny Miller on the patio.
And Saturday night at Romano's Mission Grove they have Gabo Fayuca (in case you missed his Friday show).

Is This Thing On? (Yes, This Thing is On.)
If you pay attention to such things, you might know that guitar sales skyrocketed through the COVID pandemic. It's no surprise that local open mic nights are more popular (and numerous) than they have been for years.
The Riverside Open Mic Music Series continues its thrice weekly run and it goes like this: Tuesdays at The Hideaway for music and comedy, Wednesdays at Back To The Grind for music only, and Thursdays at Euryale Brewing Company for music and karaoke. Whew!
And since this week is the one with the other Thursday (as in every other Thursday) Riverside singer/songwriter Cecilio Alvarez hosts the open mic at Packinghouse Brewing Company. Gabriel Rojas will be the spotlight guest.

Out There By The Airport
Most people think it's all planes and industrial activities in the Airport part of town but if you listen closely you can hear a song through the spinning propellers.
Thursday night singer/promoter Jaxx Sessions presents the Jaxx Jam, a showcase of performers at Brooks Bar. I wish I could tell you who but there's only Jaxx's name on the flyer.
Packinghouse Brewery has a nice weekend of music lined up for you. Friday night The Noble Trip takes the Backdoor Stage, and Saturday night features reggae music with Ganda.

Nine Bands in Two Nights at The Hideaway
The Hideaway hosts no less than nine original bands from throughout Southern California this weekend.
Friday evening the lineup features Velvateen from Artesia, from Long Beach Cosmic Kitten, Rosy Cheeks, and Light Dazed (both from L.A.).
Saturday it's a punk rock vibe with The Jawaz from San Gabriel Valley, Bad Ass, The Hated Inc from Berdoo, The Pawns, and La Puente's Los Cucuys.
Both nights are 21 and over with a $5 cover at the door.

Sometimes the wildest things happen when bands start mixing musical styles.
Not really a straight cover band, not really a tribute, Metalachi is billed as the World's First and Only Heavy Metal Mariachi Band. They bring their big fun sound to The Concert Lounge Saturday night.
