The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum opens Saturday and begins a new era for The City of Arts and Innovation.
A Historic Day for Riverside and Chicano Art: The Cheech Opens
I'm still a little floored that this is happening in Riverside. It's Cheech. With his cool Chicano art collection. This week the eyes of the art world have been upon us and our own Riverside Art Museum.
The same place where I took summer ceramic classes on summer break in 1974 got together with Cheech Marin and made a deal and a plan for the old library (the same place where I learned to read and use a card catalog). Really?
And yeah, I'm an old Cheech y Chong fan. Adults couldn't keep it away from us in middle school (even without the internet) and that humor spoke to a 13 year old half-Mexican Riverside kid. Up In Smoke came out my senior year and my dad and I saw it at the Tyler Mall UA. He loved it so much we stayed for the next showing.
Dad's been gone for almost 14 Father’s Days and I have to pause and take a moment when I think of how much he would have loved The Cheech.
Thank you to the Riverside Art Museum and Cheech Marin for making the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum a real thing.

Two New Exhibits Opening at RAM (Next to The Cheech)
The Riverside Art Museum introduces two new exhibitions, Chasing Clouds (Naida Osline) and Garden/Plot (Karen Kitchel).
“Chasing Clouds is a series that uses the practice of vaping to explore the visual manifestation of a breath pattern suggesting ectoplasm, escaping spirits, auras, chakras, energy fields, and the dissolution of the self.”
“[Karen] Kitchel’s paintings in Garden/Plot pull inspiration from her own gardening practice in the water starved west, balancing an intense contrast between dark and light.”
Both exhibitions run through September 18, 2022.

In Case You Haven't Had Enough Of This Song
I suppose the logical thing to do when an annoying kids' song goes viral is to create a touring stage show to wring every cent out of the parents before the (baby) shark jumps itself.
